The chaplaincy is in the heart of the school, in every sense. We are here for everyone, students and staff. As Christians we want to do what Jesus does, which is welcome and value everyone – people of all faiths and none. The chaplaincy is a place to pray and be still, to listen and relax and celebrate. Amidst the bustle of lunch, of music and chess, chatter and iPads, we take time to pray and to learn and respond to challenges and questions and live life in all its fullness. We hope that all will find the chaplaincy a place of peace and faith.
The chaplain is the Reverend Mike Haslam. He is based at the academy full time and is there to listen to and support students and staff. The chaplain also leads on much of the school’s work in the local community and facilitates student leadership such as prefect and student voice. With a passion for running, hiking and the wild places of the country, Mike also leads Ten Tors at the academy.
School pastors are also based in the chaplaincy. They are a wonderful team of volunteers from local churches who are there to listen, care and help. They do community patrols after school and help with school visits, with mentoring and one to one reading during school.
