A group of Year 11 students took park in a Talking Day, run by The English Speaking Union, to prepare students to take part in a House of Lords Chamber debate. Ten students will go forward to prepare speeches and remarks to be delivered in the House of Lords in November. This year’s topic is on responses to environmental issues – how can we reach a sustainable future?
We also had two members of the Royal Meteorological society present, to advise and bring their own subject specialism. They will go on to help mentor students in preparation for the debate.
It was a really positive atmosphere with students developing speaking skills as well as extending their knowledge and understanding of current environmental issues.
Congratulations to Adele on her enthusiasm and effort. Other noteworthy moments were Oscar being Marsha Johnson (an LGBT Drag queen activist) in a balloon debate and Ruth and Chloe’s almost encyclopaedic knowledge of environmental issues and nuclear power.
